I’ve really been on a gold and glittery kick lately. Tis the season. This weekend, I decided to make a Pinterest classic and updated 4 wood candlesticks on my mantle. With a bottle of Mod Podge, a sponge brush and a LOT of loose gold glitter, I turned my living area into a room fit for Ke$ha.
This is what my mantle looked like. I bought these candlesticks on clearance at Target and made the “Peace” banner with some burlap, string and a Sharpie. I like to put it up during the holidays.
You will need these three things, and a trashcan with a clean liner.
You will want to take this project outside, trust me. Coat one candlestick with Mod Podge and while holding it over the trashcan, pour glitter all over it. Hold it from the opposite end and pour more to get all of the angles covered. Then repeat with the 3 remaining candlesticks. If you run out of glitter, empty the trashcan liner into a bowl and start over. This is why you want to use a clean liner. Let the candlesticks sit for 30 minutes then go back over the holes with more Mod Podge and glitter. Let them sit for an hour before shaking and bringing them inside. Some people recommend adding a sealant to them but I just wasn’t in the mood to spend the extra $10. They look fine, yeah?
Here they are back on the mantle! Shockingly subtle.
